South Park is one of Seattle's most diverse neighborhoods, and is home to a wide variety of talented artists.
South Park is also host to a number of traffic signal boxes, many of which are prone to graffiti and neglect from the city and telecomm companies who are supposed to maintain them.
Installing art on these empty boxes can deter defacement and increase a sense of ownership from the community, so I researched funding opportunities on behalf of South Park Arts. I applied for a Neighborhood Matching Fund grant, and we were awarded a Small Sparks grant that partially funded this project.
I designed a Call For Artists flyer, inviting local artists to submit their work reflecting South Parks' history and community.
Finalists were chosen by the South Park Arts selection committee, then put to a community vote. Winning artists will install their work on assigned signal boxes in September 2017.
